Scientific facts…

Research on positive psychology from North Carolina University has shown that a positive mindset boosts productivity and improves the capacity for creative problem-solving.

Most of us know serotonin and dopamine as happy chemicals. Dopamine and serotonin are both neurotransmitters, chemical messengers the nervous system uses that regulate various functions and processes in the body, from sleep to metabolism.

Our brain's reward centre releases dopamine to increase motivation, and serotonin is the direct cause for us to feel satisfied. Willpower is fuelled by dopamine, making us incredibly productive when we have to complete tasks. And this is why goal settings or a reward chart can increase productivity and keep the level of dopamine high. Additionally, serotonin lowers the levels of stress hormones, improving our ability to concentrate and process information, making us feel pleasure whenever we achieve something rewarding.

In short, every time you perform an advantageous action from an evolutionary perspective, your brain rewards us with happy chemicals!

There is also evidence that reduced dopamine levels can contribute to depression. You may start feeling demotivated and lacking a sense of purpose. Meanwhile, a lack of serotonin can affect how you process emotions, affecting the overall mood.
